SHOULDER PAIN CHIROPRACTOR IN OVERLAND PARK, KS
Shoulder Pain Treatment
Reaching, pressing, sleeping on that side — shoulder pain gets into everything. We find what's actually driving it and rebuild the shoulder instead of just chasing the ache.
What Is Shoulder Pain?
The shoulder is one of the most mobile joints in the body, which also makes it one of the most vulnerable to injury and irritation. Shoulder pain can come from the joint itself or from the muscles, tendons, and ligaments that support it, and it often shows up as aching, stiffness, weakness, or sharp pain with certain movements.
The underlying cause can vary from person to person and may involve rotator cuff irritation, joint restriction, muscle imbalance, or referred pain from the neck and upper back. While symptoms can range from a mild ache to pain that limits everyday tasks, effective treatment begins with identifying the source of the problem instead of simply masking the pain. A comprehensive evaluation helps determine what is contributing to your symptoms and guides the most appropriate course of care.
At Rebuild Chiropractic, we focus on restoring healthy movement, reducing stress on the shoulder joint and surrounding tissues, and helping your body heal naturally. Our goal is not only to relieve your current symptoms but also to improve function and reduce the likelihood of future flare-ups.

What causes shoulder pain?
Shoulder pain has several possible sources, and the treatment changes depending on which one it is. Sorting that out is the first job.
Rotator cuff irritation
The cuff loses its ability to keep the joint centered, and reaching or pressing starts to pinch.
Joint or capsule restriction
Lost range at the joint itself makes every overhead movement work harder than it should.
Shoulder blade control
Weak or poorly timed shoulder blade muscles leave the joint unsupported through range.
Neck and mid-back
Stiff or irritated segments above the shoulder can refer pain into the shoulder and arm.
Don't guess which one is yours — booking takes a few seconds.
How We Treat Shoulder Pain
Instead of masking symptoms, we focus on restoring healthy movement and rebuilding tolerance for load — one-on-one with Dr. Luke Bergner, DC, at our Overland Park office.
Free consultation

Dr. Luke Bergner is a fantastic coach and guide. I can’t say enough good things about his approach. He truly listens, educates, and tailors his input and exercises to meet me where I am, while encouraging me to challenge myself. He builds confidence and strength! He’s thoughtful, flexible, encouraging, and thorough. I have autoimmune symptoms that were causing pain and limiting my lifestyle. Dr. Luke asked questions, learned, and provided me with options so that I could adapt to my symptoms day by day and still move forward. I’m grateful and glad that I went to see Dr. Luke!

I am very pleased with the results I got from my experience working with Dr. Luke on some back/hip issues. I was leery with his different approach to address my discomfort but his treatment really does seek to rebuild you and give you a long-term fix. He is extremely flexible and worked around some crazy travel plans I had during our time together to make sure I still got the results I wanted. I cannot recommend enough at least taking a phone call with him to discuss any long-term, lingering pain issues you might have to see if you'd be a good fit for one of his programs.

I went to see Dr. Luke at the recommendation of my sister to see about some SI Joint pain that was limiting my strength and mobility. This was about two weeks from a CrossFit competition, and I didn’t know if I was going to be able to compete as well as I knew I could. Within those two weeks, Dr. Luke worked with me to regain my strength and mobility so that I was able to compete and compete well. I would recommend him to anyone not only because of his expertise, but also his determination to keep people moving and to keep them doing what it is they enjoying doing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Most shoulder pain comes from joint restriction, muscle imbalance, or irritated tendons, all of which respond well to conservative care. At Rebuild Chiropractic we also assess your neck and upper back, since they often contribute to shoulder problems.
Pressing loads the rotator cuff and biceps tendon hardest at the bottom of a bench press and the top of an overhead press, so an irritated shoulder complains right there. Small changes to grip width, bar path, and range usually let you keep pressing while we fix the underlying mechanics.
Almost always. We typically keep you pulling, adjust your pressing angles and range, and swap the worst offenders for variations your shoulder tolerates, then rebuild from there as it settles.
Most shoulder pain can be diagnosed and treated without imaging. If your exam suggests something that needs a closer look, such as a significant tear or an injury after trauma, we will refer you for the right scan.
Lying on the shoulder compresses irritated tendons and the bursa, which is why night pain is so common with rotator cuff problems. Adjusting your sleeping position helps in the short term, and the night pain usually settles as the tissue calms down with treatment.
Yes, pain from the joints and nerves of the neck commonly refers into the shoulder and upper arm. This is exactly why we examine your neck and upper back as part of every shoulder assessment.
Mild strains sometimes settle within a couple of weeks. Pain that lingers beyond that usually has a movement or strength problem behind it, and the longer it is left, the stiffer and more protective the shoulder tends to become.
Frozen shoulder causes progressive stiffness where movement is lost in every direction, not just painful in certain positions. A physical exam can usually distinguish it from rotator cuff and joint problems, and the treatment approach differs.
Avoid lying directly on the sore side, and if you sleep on the other side, hug a pillow to support the top arm. On your back, a small pillow under the elbow takes tension off the shoulder overnight.
Seek prompt medical care if your pain follows significant trauma, the shoulder looks deformed, you suddenly cannot lift your arm, or you have fever, unexplained swelling, or numbness spreading down the arm.
