MID-BACK PAIN CHIROPRACTOR IN OVERLAND PARK, KS
Mid-Back Pain Treatment
That tight, nagging band between your shoulder blades that no amount of stretching fixes. Usually it's a mobility and strength problem, not a knot.
What Is Mid-Back Pain?
Mid-back pain affects the thoracic spine, the section of your back that connects to your ribs and supports your posture. Because this area is built more for stability than movement, it is especially sensitive to long hours of sitting, and pain often shows up as aching, stiffness, or a burning sensation between the shoulder blades.
The underlying cause can vary from person to person and may involve joint dysfunction, rib irritation, muscle tension, or postural strain. While symptoms can range from mild tightness to sharp pain with deep breaths or twisting, effective treatment begins with identifying the source of the problem instead of simply masking the pain. A comprehensive evaluation helps determine what is contributing to your symptoms and guides the most appropriate course of care.
At Rebuild Chiropractic, we focus on restoring healthy movement, reducing stress on the thoracic spine, and helping your body heal naturally. Our goal is not only to relieve your current symptoms but also to improve function and reduce the likelihood of future flare-ups.

What Causes Mid-Back Pain?
Mid-back pain is usually about lost motion and endurance rather than injury. Working out which factor is yours is the first job.
Prolonged sitting
Hours in one position with no rotation or extension leave the mid-back stiff and irritable.
Lost rotation
When the mid-back stops rotating, the neck, shoulders and low back all compensate for it.
Postural endurance
The muscles holding your upper body up fatigue, and tension builds as the day goes on.
Neck and shoulder involvement
Restrictions above and below refer symptoms straight into the area between the shoulder blades.
Don't guess which one is yours — booking takes a few seconds.
How We Treat Mid-Back Pain
Instead of masking symptoms, we focus on restoring healthy movement and rebuilding tolerance for load — one-on-one with Dr. Luke Bergner, DC, at our Overland Park office.
Free consultation
A short call about what hurts, how long it's been going on, and what you've already tried. Free, no obligation. If we're not the right fit, we'll tell you and point you somewhere better.
What you leave with: an honest answer on whether we can help.
Comprehensive evaluation
Full history plus movement, orthopedic and strength testing — because where it hurts is rarely where the problem started. You get the findings and your first treatment on the same visit.
What you leave with: a diagnosis, a plan, and treatment the same day.
A plan you can actually follow
Hands-on care to get you moving now, progressive loading so it holds. Built around your sport, your job and the hours you actually have — not a generic protocol.
What you leave with: exercises that fit your week, not someone else's.
Coaching between visits
Recovery doesn't only happen in the office. Every exercise comes with video in a private coaching app, and we adjust it as your symptoms and schedule change. Message us when you're stuck.
What you leave with: no guessing between appointments.
Build strength so it stays fixed
Most care stops when the pain does. We keep going until the area is stronger than it was before, so the same flare-up doesn't show up again next season.
What you leave with: a body that holds up without us.

Dr. Luke Bergner is a fantastic coach and guide. I can’t say enough good things about his approach. He truly listens, educates, and tailors his input and exercises to meet me where I am, while encouraging me to challenge myself. He builds confidence and strength! He’s thoughtful, flexible, encouraging, and thorough. I have autoimmune symptoms that were causing pain and limiting my lifestyle. Dr. Luke asked questions, learned, and provided me with options so that I could adapt to my symptoms day by day and still move forward. I’m grateful and glad that I went to see Dr. Luke!

I am very pleased with the results I got from my experience working with Dr. Luke on some back/hip issues. I was leery with his different approach to address my discomfort but his treatment really does seek to rebuild you and give you a long-term fix. He is extremely flexible and worked around some crazy travel plans I had during our time together to make sure I still got the results I wanted. I cannot recommend enough at least taking a phone call with him to discuss any long-term, lingering pain issues you might have to see if you'd be a good fit for one of his programs.

I went to see Dr. Luke at the recommendation of my sister to see about some SI Joint pain that was limiting my strength and mobility. This was about two weeks from a CrossFit competition, and I didn’t know if I was going to be able to compete as well as I knew I could. Within those two weeks, Dr. Luke worked with me to regain my strength and mobility so that I was able to compete and compete well. I would recommend him to anyone not only because of his expertise, but also his determination to keep people moving and to keep them doing what it is they enjoying doing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. The thoracic spine and rib joints respond particularly well to manual treatment, and combining that with posture and strength work addresses why the area got overloaded in the first place.
That area works hard holding your posture, especially through long days at a desk. Stiff thoracic joints, irritated rib joints, and overworked muscles all concentrate symptoms right between the shoulder blades.
Your ribs hinge on the spine with every breath, so when one of those joints is irritated, a deep breath can feel sharp. It is a common and very treatable mechanical problem, though sudden severe chest pain with breathlessness always needs emergency care instead.
Musculoskeletal pain typically changes with movement, position, or breathing, and is tender to touch. Pain that comes on with exertion, feels like pressure, or arrives with breathlessness, sweating, or nausea needs urgent medical evaluation before anything else.
The thoracic spine is often the first link to fatigue under heavy pulls, especially if it is stiff and the muscles lack endurance. We restore the movement, then build the strength and bracing so it holds position under load.
Screen at eye height, forearms supported, and above all, regular position changes. The best posture is your next posture, so we build movement breaks into your day rather than chasing a perfect setup.
Noticeably. Overhead pressing, front rack position, and squat posture all depend on thoracic extension and rotation, so freeing this area often improves lifts that seemed like shoulder or hip problems.
Almost always. We modify the aggravating positions and often add thoracic mobility work into your warm-up, which usually helps your lifts rather than hindering them.
Painless clicking is usually just gas releasing within the joints and is harmless. Clicking with pain or a repeated need to self-crack points to restricted segments nearby that are worth treating.
Seek medical care for pain after significant trauma, unexplained pain that wakes you at night, fever, unexplained weight loss, or any chest symptoms brought on by exertion.
