FORCE PLATE TESTING IN OVERLAND PARK, KS

Force Plate Testing

“It feels about the same” is not a measurement. Force plates put a number on how much force each leg produces, so progress is something we can prove instead of something we hope for.

What is force plate testing?

Force plates measure the force your body puts into the ground, hundreds of times per second. Stand, squat, jump or hop on them and we get objective numbers instead of an educated guess about how you are moving.

The most useful thing they show is asymmetry. People are remarkably good at hiding a weak side, and you can look completely normal while one leg quietly does most of the work. That imbalance is what sends the same injury back around.

They also let us test the qualities that actually matter for sport and daily life separately: how much force you can produce, how quickly you produce it, and how well you absorb landing. Two people with the same squat can be very different in the third one.

And they give you honest feedback. When your numbers improve, you know the plan is working. When they stall, we change it instead of running the same program for another month.

Good reasons to use force plate testing
Returning to sport after an injury
One side that always re-injures
Plateaued despite consistent training
Feeling unsteady or off-balance
Recurring hamstring or calf strains
Wanting real numbers, not guesses
the benefits

When we use force plate testing

Force plate testing is most useful when a decision depends on a number rather than a feeling.

Return to sport decisions

Before you sprint, cut or compete again, we can show whether the injured side actually produces force like the other one.

Finding a hidden weak side

Left-versus-right differences you cannot feel show up clearly, and they are often the reason the same injury keeps returning.

Balance and fall risk

Sway and single-leg testing quantify balance, so training targets a measured deficit instead of a general worry.

Proving your plan is working

Retesting turns progress into data. If the numbers are not moving, the program changes.

Don't guess which one is yours — booking takes a few seconds.

Dr. Luke Bergner is a fantastic coach and guide. I can’t say enough good things about his approach. He truly listens, educates, and tailors his input and exercises to meet me where I am, while encouraging me to challenge myself. He builds confidence and strength! He’s thoughtful, flexible, encouraging, and thorough. I have autoimmune symptoms that were causing pain and limiting my lifestyle. Dr. Luke asked questions, learned, and provided me with options so that I could adapt to my symptoms day by day and still move forward. I’m grateful and glad that I went to see Dr. Luke!

I am very pleased with the results I got from my experience working with Dr. Luke on some back/hip issues. I was leery with his different approach to address my discomfort but his treatment really does seek to rebuild you and give you a long-term fix. He is extremely flexible and worked around some crazy travel plans I had during our time together to make sure I still got the results I wanted. I cannot recommend enough at least taking a phone call with him to discuss any long-term, lingering pain issues you might have to see if you'd be a good fit for one of his programs.

I went to see Dr. Luke at the recommendation of my sister to see about some SI Joint pain that was limiting my strength and mobility. This was about two weeks from a CrossFit competition, and I didn’t know if I was going to be able to compete as well as I knew I could. Within those two weeks, Dr. Luke worked with me to regain my strength and mobility so that I was able to compete and compete well. I would recommend him to anyone not only because of his expertise, but also his determination to keep people moving and to keep them doing what it is they enjoying doing.

TOP QUESTIONS FROM YOU

Frequently Asked Questions

What is force plate testing used for in Overland Park?

Mainly three things: deciding whether an injured side is ready for full activity, finding left-versus-right weakness you cannot feel, and measuring whether your training is actually working.

Do I need to be an athlete to use force plates?

No. Balance and single-leg strength testing is just as useful for adults who want to stay steady and independent as it is for someone returning to sport.

What does the testing session involve?

A short warm-up, then a handful of tasks on the plates such as jumps, single-leg work and quiet standing. It takes minutes, not an hour, and you get your numbers explained the same visit.

How often should I retest?

Usually every few weeks, at the points where a decision needs making. Retesting constantly adds noise, and retesting never means you are guessing.

Is this available with regular chiropractic care?

Yes. It is part of how we build and adjust plans at our Overland Park office, not a separate service you have to go elsewhere for.
