What Is Movement-Based Rehabilitation?

Rehabilitation is the structured process of restoring what an injury took away. That means range of motion, control, and above all the ability to tolerate load again, whether that load is a barbell, a running mile, or a full day on your feet.

The part most people miss is that pain resolves well before capacity returns. Feeling fine is not the same as being ready, and returning to full activity in that gap is the single most common reason injuries repeat.

At Rebuild Chiropractic in Overland Park, rehab is progressive and specific to what you are returning to. Every stage has a purpose and a measure, so you always know where you are and what has to happen next.

Rehabilitation may be right for you if you:
Feel better at rest but symptoms return the moment you load the area
Have had the same injury more than once
Are coming back from surgery or a significant injury
Were discharged from care still unable to do what you want to do
Want a clear plan rather than being told to rest and see
Need to rebuild strength before returning fully to training or sport
the benefits

What Rehab Rebuilds

An injury takes away more than comfort. These are the qualities we restore, in this order.

Range of Motion

Getting the joint moving fully again before asking it to do real work.

Motor Control

Retraining the coordination and timing that pain disrupted.

Load Tolerance

Progressively rebuilding how much force the tissue can handle.

Confidence

Proving to yourself that the area holds up, which matters more than people admit.

Skipping any of these stages is how injuries repeat. Working through them in order takes longer than resting, and it is the reason the result lasts.

Dr. Luke Bergner is a fantastic coach and guide. I can’t say enough good things about his approach. He truly listens, educates, and tailors his input and exercises to meet me where I am, while encouraging me to challenge myself. He builds confidence and strength! He’s thoughtful, flexible, encouraging, and thorough. I have autoimmune symptoms that were causing pain and limiting my lifestyle. Dr. Luke asked questions, learned, and provided me with options so that I could adapt to my symptoms day by day and still move forward. I’m grateful and glad that I went to see Dr. Luke!

I am very pleased with the results I got from my experience working with Dr. Luke on some back/hip issues. I was leery with his different approach to address my discomfort but his treatment really does seek to rebuild you and give you a long-term fix. He is extremely flexible and worked around some crazy travel plans I had during our time together to make sure I still got the results I wanted. I cannot recommend enough at least taking a phone call with him to discuss any long-term, lingering pain issues you might have to see if you'd be a good fit for one of his programs.

I went to see Dr. Luke at the recommendation of my sister to see about some SI Joint pain that was limiting my strength and mobility. This was about two weeks from a CrossFit competition, and I didn’t know if I was going to be able to compete as well as I knew I could. Within those two weeks, Dr. Luke worked with me to regain my strength and mobility so that I was able to compete and compete well. I would recommend him to anyone not only because of his expertise, but also his determination to keep people moving and to keep them doing what it is they enjoying doing.

TOP QUESTIONS FROM YOU

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from physical therapy?

The principles overlap considerably. What tends to differ here is the emphasis on progressive strength training and the fact that you work with the same provider throughout rather than being passed between people.

I finished rehab elsewhere but still cannot do what I want. Can you help?

Yes, and it is a common reason people come to us. Discharge often happens when pain resolves, which usually leaves a capacity gap between comfortable and ready.

How long does rehab take?

It depends on the tissue involved and how long the problem has been there. You will get an honest range after your evaluation, along with the milestones that tell us you are ready for the next stage.

Do I need to be in pain to start?

No. Some of the best outcomes come from people who are no longer sore but know they are not back to full capacity yet.

Will I be given a sheet of exercises and sent home?

No. Your programme lives in the app with video guidance, it is updated as you progress, and you have direct support between visits rather than being left to interpret it alone.

Can I keep training during rehab?

Almost always, in a modified form. Maintaining what you can do makes the return faster and protects the rest of your fitness while one area recovers.

What if I am coming back from surgery?

That is well within scope. We will coordinate with your surgical timeline and protocol, then build the strength side that post-surgical care often stops short of.

How do I know it is working?

We retest. Range, strength, and specific movement tests are measured through the process, so progress is visible rather than a matter of how you feel that day.

What happens when I finish?

You leave with the strength and the knowledge to maintain it. The goal is independence, and that includes knowing what to do if symptoms ever start creeping back.

No. Book a free consultation and we will tell you honestly whether rehab is the right path for what you are dealing with.
