Soft Tissue Therapy in Overland Park, KS
Soft Tissue Therapy
When muscle and fascia stay restricted, everything above and below has to work harder. At Rebuild Chiropractic, we use targeted soft tissue therapy to release those areas and restore movement that holds.

What Is Soft Tissue Therapy?

Soft tissue therapy is hands-on treatment applied to muscle, tendon, and fascia that has become restricted or irritated. Using pressure combined with movement, we work through the tissue that is limiting how a joint travels.
It differs from general massage in intent. Rather than working broadly for relaxation, we treat a specific structure identified in your exam, usually while you actively move the area so the tissue is addressed under load.
At Rebuild Chiropractic in Overland Park, soft tissue work is used to clear a restriction so the strength side of your plan can progress. It is one of the fastest ways to change how a joint feels within a single visit.
What Soft Tissue Work Addresses
Restriction in tissue shows up in a few predictable ways. These are the ones we treat most often.
Adhesions and Scar Tissue
Tissue that healed short or disorganised after a previous injury.
Chronic Overuse Tension
Muscle that has been working overtime to protect a joint or cover a weakness.
Fascial Restriction
Limitation in the connective tissue that surrounds and links muscle groups.
Post-Training Tightness
Accumulated tension from repeated training that has not fully cleared.
Releasing tissue is the easy part. Keeping it released depends on strengthening the area so it no longer has to protect itself, which is where the rest of your plan comes in.

Dr. Luke Bergner is a fantastic coach and guide. I can’t say enough good things about his approach. He truly listens, educates, and tailors his input and exercises to meet me where I am, while encouraging me to challenge myself. He builds confidence and strength! He’s thoughtful, flexible, encouraging, and thorough. I have autoimmune symptoms that were causing pain and limiting my lifestyle. Dr. Luke asked questions, learned, and provided me with options so that I could adapt to my symptoms day by day and still move forward. I’m grateful and glad that I went to see Dr. Luke!

I am very pleased with the results I got from my experience working with Dr. Luke on some back/hip issues. I was leery with his different approach to address my discomfort but his treatment really does seek to rebuild you and give you a long-term fix. He is extremely flexible and worked around some crazy travel plans I had during our time together to make sure I still got the results I wanted. I cannot recommend enough at least taking a phone call with him to discuss any long-term, lingering pain issues you might have to see if you'd be a good fit for one of his programs.

I went to see Dr. Luke at the recommendation of my sister to see about some SI Joint pain that was limiting my strength and mobility. This was about two weeks from a CrossFit competition, and I didn’t know if I was going to be able to compete as well as I knew I could. Within those two weeks, Dr. Luke worked with me to regain my strength and mobility so that I was able to compete and compete well. I would recommend him to anyone not only because of his expertise, but also his determination to keep people moving and to keep them doing what it is they enjoying doing.

Frequently Asked Questions
There is overlap, but the intent differs. Soft tissue therapy targets a specific structure found in your exam and is usually applied while you move, rather than working broadly across an area for relaxation.
It can be intense over a restricted area, but it should stay within what you can breathe through. We check in as we go and adjust pressure rather than pushing through sharp pain.
Range of motion often changes within the same session, and we retest so you can feel it. How long it holds depends on the strength work that follows.
Occasionally there is mild tenderness for a day or so, but significant bruising is not the goal and is not a sign of effective treatment.
Yes. Tissue that healed short or disorganised often responds well, even years later, particularly when combined with progressive loading.
Less often than most people assume. It is a tool to unlock progress rather than ongoing maintenance, and the aim is to reduce how much you need it over time.
Usually yes. We may suggest keeping intensity moderate in the treated area for a day, and we will tell you if that applies to your session.
Clothing you can move in, and something that allows access to the area being treated. Shorts and a t-shirt work well for most appointments.
They do different jobs. Stretching asks tissue to lengthen, hands-on work addresses why it will not. Most plans use both, alongside strengthening in the new range.
No. Start with a free consultation and we will assess whether soft tissue work is the right approach for your situation.
